COMM 316 – Portfolio Picks
Wow, what a semester it has been in COMM 316! I’ve learned so much and I really feel like I have discovered my personal style. I have loved learning all kinds of different photography, I’ve learned that I love portraiture and product/food photography the most. I think I really like having one subject to focus on, and also being able to use a more shallow depth of field. I LOVE bokeh. It just really makes me happy. My style isn’t too extreme, I love letting things have a more natural and earthy look for the most part. I am so excited to continue to build this portfolio up with all my new skills and discoveries!

Engagement Session: Nikki & Callum
Planning and Process
It was such a pleasure working with Nikki and Callum for their engagement shoot. They are so incredible together, and they treat each other with such tenderness, it just makes your heart melt. A week prior (9/17) I talked with Nikki about what she was kind of looking for. She only had a couple of suggestions and mainly wanted me to take charge and do whatever I thought would look good, so really not a lot happened with our APM. It still took a lot of planning on my part. I had to look for a place that would be cool for engagements, which took a lot of thought an exploring. I also had to consider the weather in the forecast for our scheduled day (9/24) . I had posed couples before but I still needed to get more ideas for cute poses, so I spent quite a bit of time on pinterest looking for poses that would fit Nikki and Callum. We met up and headed to the location at 5 pm on September 24th. It was windier than planned, so I was a little worried about how I’d make it work. I was a little concerned that we’d just have to reschedule but it ended up being just fine. I made sure they were posed the right direction relative of the wind. I also waited for the wind to calm down a little before I snapped the shot. I think we really got some beautiful results and we used the wind in our favor. I told Nikki and Callum that I would get their photos to them the next week before I headed out of town. I spent several hours sorting through and editing the photos, but I was able to get their photos to them when promised. I ended up giving them almost 60 photos with edits applied just because I wanted to give them plenty of options. I think it was a great experience for the both of us!
Creative Resume
I really enjoyed creating this creative resume, and I was really pleased with how it turned out. I designed most of it in Photoshop, but the right and left columns on the inside were actually designed in Illustrator and I brought them in at the very end. I got my idea for my creative resume while attending Adobe Max. I saw someone do something similar and I like it. Steal like an artist, right? The layout actually wasn’t too confusing to figure out, I just used a lot of rulers and guides. For the design I used a lot of clipping masks for the images.
It’s really fun to show your creativity in a creative way. I hope you enjoy looking at what I came up with. I encourage you to take a look at more of my work on my site. 🙂
